Stone Processıng

``Tur``: Mountain and ``Abidin``: Consisting of the words Kul, Turabdin is the mountain of people who believe in Syriac. And it is this belief that perhaps transformed a huge mountain from limestone into Mardin, castles, monasteries, madrasas and thousands of stone houses. It started from the stone masters of the Romans, and the processing of limestone like lace turned into magnificent motifs that remind the eternity in the gates, mihrabs and stalactites in the Artukids.
Architects Lole Serkiz Gizo and his journeymen left permanent marks on the historical buildings of Mardin. Abdulcelil Kao (İldoğan), who was an apprentice in the last days of Chief Architect Lole, gave a hand to Yusuf Kıdır with the tradition of ahi-order, almost giving life to the stone from past to present. Yusuf Usta embroidered his heart on the crown gate of Latifiye Mosque, Fuat Yağcı Mosque in his 54-year work. He repaired it by adding the labor of old masters in Şehidiye and Melik Mahmut Mosques. Master Yusuf's journeymen Veysi Duva and Şeyhmus Bartan continue to write the stories of the past in stone.
